Amid the rising tensions in West Asia, escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, the Israel Embassy in New Delhi has sought permission to access the shooting range of Delhi police to train its security personnel.
As reported by The Indian Express, the matter is under consideration and inputs of various units will be taken before arriving on final decision.
According to the reports, the security division of Delhi Police received a letter from the Israeli Embassy on September 23. The embassy had requested them to provide the facility for shooting practice by the security personnel. After discussion among senior officers, the security division forwarded the letter to the Delhi Police headquarters to take a final decision.
Reportedly the shooting range at New Police Lines, comes under the Delhi Police Academy but the security division handles security matters related to the Israel Embassy. Therefore, the letter was sent to the security division first.
A senior officer told The Indian Express that is the first time an embassy has asked to provide their shooting range. “We are discussing the matter with the senior authorities and as of now, are likely to reject their request. But we are yet to take a final decision,” added the officer.
However, it’s learnt that the embassy has not given any reason for their request.
Will There Be India’s Role in Peace-Process?
Notably, few days back when asked about India’s role in peace process, spokesperson of Israel Embassy in India, Guy Nir said, “Any terror activity should be condemned and should be stopped. And the fact that Prime Minister Modi is speaking about that just shows you that we’re on the same page. Terrorism needs to be eliminated. So I’m thankful for that. As for the role of India, this is really for India to decide.”
He added that India is one of the most peaceful countries and Israel would appreciate swift action by India to end the war.
Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also asserted that the world must unite to fight against the ayatollahs’ dark regime, which he defined as the source of terror and evil in their region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spoken to Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu over rising tensions in the Middle East. During a conversation, Modi expressed his concern over the intensifying situation, saying that “terrorism has no place in our world.” He reiterated that the situation should not be allowed to deteriorate further and hostages should be freed safely. Prime Minister Modi reiterated full support for efforts that lead to the restoration of peace and stability at the earliest.
