Opposition Meet: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who conveyed the meeting of Opposition parties in Patna, said that it was a good meeting where it was decided to fight the 2024 General elections against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led alliance together.
Interacting with media after Nitish Kumar said that further moves would be decided in the next meeting in Shimla next month.
Janata Dal-United (JDU) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) hosted the meeting. Nitish Kumar accompanied by former Bihar’s CM Lalu Yadav acted as a middleman to make the meeting successful.
17 parties participate
Leaders from 15-plus political parties including Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi of Congress, Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee from Trinamool Congress, and Akhilesh Yadav of Samajwadi Party sat together to find a way to tackle Bharatiya Janata Party-led alliance in upcoming 2024 general elections.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin, and former Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti also participated in the meeting.
BJP hits back
Taking dig at meeting of opposition parties, former Bihar deputy CM and BJP laeader Sushil Modi said, “The meeting of the Opposition parties failed today as they only decided on when to meet next. They had said they would fight the 2024 election together earlier. Such meetings will not affect BJP. Today, people can see PM Modi addressing the US Congress”.
