At a time when West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has slipped into deep political crisis over the Kolkata Rape-Murder Case, and the BJP has demanded her resignation, Governor C V Ananda Bose met Union Home Minister Amit Shah Friday and briefed him on the situation. It is believed that the governor apprised him of the law and order situation in the state in the wake of widespread protest against the rape and murder of a junior doctor in state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital In the state capital.
West Bengal Governor Meets President Droupadi Murmu
Earlier last week, Ananda Bose met President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and briefed them on the RG Kar incident and the subsequent events that unfolded in the state.
Hundreds of people from different walks of life took to the streets after the body of the woman postgraduate trainee was found in a seminar hall at the hospital on August 9. Though a civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy, was arrested the next day, opposition parties asked the Mamata Banerjee to quit.
Massive Protest
A massive protest march was held in the state capital by Chhatra Samaj, an umbrella organization of different student organizations. The BJP observed a separate 12-hour dawn-to-dusk strike in the state.
Kolkata Police Rejects CBI Claims
The Kolkata rape-murder case took a bizarre twist on Friday after Kolkata Police on Friday rejected the claims of the CBI that the crime scene of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in the city was “not compromised”. Earlier, the central agency alleged that the seminar hall of the RG Kar hospital, where a 31-year-old trainee doctor was raped and murdered earlier this month, was tampered with.
