Uttar Pradesh: A married Muslim woman from Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, alleged that her husband divorced her through “triple talaq” because she praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the development work being undertaken by them in Ayodhya. Based on her complaint, an FIR under various provisions of IPC was lodged against the woman’s husband and his family members.
Marital Strain Over Political Praise
This lady is originally from Mohalla Sarai, in Bahraich, and was married to Arshad, son of Islam, in December 2023. According to her, matters started going awry when one day she praised the beautification and progress of Ayodhya in front of her husband. She had praised the efforts put in by Yogi Adityanath and Narendra Modi; for this, she claims that her husband sent her back to her parents’ home.
Allegations of Physical Abuse
The woman has further alleged that severe physical abuse was meted out to her by the mother-in-law, husband, and other family members. She alleged that once her husband even threw a pan of hot dal on her and she was brutally beaten and strangled by the family members.

Divorce Pronounced Amid Heated Arguments
After the intervention of some relatives, she was sent back to her husband’s home in Ayodhya. But she alleged that during a quarrel, her husband first used abusive words for the Chief Minister and Prime Minister before divorcing her by saying “talaq, talaq, talaq.” Police confirmed that the complaint also incorporated allegations of domestic violence on the day of divorce.
FIR Against Eight Family Members
The in-laws were booked under several sections, including the Dowry Prohibition Act, assault, abuse, threat, and the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act. The FIR names eight people, including the husband, Arshad, mother-in-law Raisha, father-in-law Islam, and other family members. Investigation is underway.
