Why Was a Retired IAF Officer Arrested in Assam? Police Suspected Pakistan Spy Links

A retired Indian Air Force officer, Kulendra Sarma, was arrested by Assam Police in Tezpur for allegedly spy links with Pakistan.

Tezpur: In a shocking twist, Assam police have arrested a retired Indian Air Force (IAF) officer in Tezpur for his alleged spy links with Pakistan.

The accused has been identified as Kulendra Sarma, a resident of the Patia locality in Tezpur.

Police officials said that Sarma was taken into custody after continuous surveillance and a preliminary investigation. A case has been registered under Sections 147, 148, 152, 238, and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigators suspect that he was in contact with individuals linked to the Pakistan intelligence agency.

According to police sources, Sarma served as a Junior Warrant Officer at the Tezpur Air Force Station and retired from the Indian Air Force in 2002. After his military service, he also worked in the Electronics Department of Tezpur University, from where he retired later.

As part of the investigation, police conducted searches and seized a laptop and a mobile phone belonging to the accused.

“During the course of the investigation, we searched his mobile phone and laptop. From these devices, certain materials were found that have raised our suspicion. We also came across information related to India that was allegedly being shared with a Pakistani intelligence agency,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Haricharan Bhumij said.

Further investigation is underway.
