New Delhi: The Punjab Haryana High Court has stayed the election of Wrestling Federation of India till further orders. Voting for this election was to be held on August 12. Just a day before this, while hearing the petition of Haryana Wrestling Association, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the elections. Now the election has been stayed till 28th August.
During the hearing on Friday, advocate Ravindra Malik, appearing for the Haryana Wrestling Association (HWA), argued that if the Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association is allowed to participate in the WFI elections, it would render the WFI elections invalid. Following this argument, Justice Vinod S. Bhardwaj of the High Court said, ‘Prima facie it appears that the Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association is not eligible to vote’. After which a stay has been imposed on the election.
Shock to Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association
The High Court gave a jolt to the representatives of the Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association by staying the elections. The High Court has not considered this association eligible to participate in the elections of the Wrestling Federation of India. Along with issuing a notice, it has been asked that why should not the voting be banned?
Actually, Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association and Haryana Wrestling Association are face to face regarding the election of Indian Wrestling Federation. Haryana Wrestling Association wanted that it should be allowed to vote in this election. The association has claimed that it is affiliated with the WFI and the Haryana Olympic Association. A petition was filed in this regard by the Haryana Wrestling Association under the leadership of Congress MP Deepender Hooda. In which it is alleged that instead of that, another union has been given permission to participate in this election.
What does Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association want?
On the other hand, Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association claims that it is recognized by WFI and Haryana Olympic Association. This union has declared itself legitimate. This association claimed that Deepender Hooda’s Haryana Wrestling Association is not recognized by WFI, so they cannot participate in WFI elections. After which, on August 11, the High Court heard the petition of the Haryana Wrestling Association and stayed the election for the time being.
