Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) and a sitting MP holding a constitutional post, is facing threats and incitements to violence from political leaders due to some of his comments. His comments have sparked intense criticism and even personal threats. These actions have raised concerns about how politics is discussed in India.

Comments on Sikhs Cause Trouble

During a visit to the U.S., Rahul Gandhi made remarks about the Sikh community, which caused anger back home. BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu called him “the number one terrorist” and accused him of trying to create divisions among communities. Bittu claimed that Gandhi was trying to stir trouble between Sikhs, after earlier attempts to gain support from Muslim issues had failed. He also suggested that terrorist groups supported Gandhi’s statements, making him seem anti-national.

Questions About Gandhi’s Loyalty

Ravneet Singh Bittu also questioned Rahul Gandhi’s loyalty to India and Indians, saying that he spends too much time abroad and being too close to foreign people. He claimed that Gandhi was out of touch with Indian values and not committed to the country.

Violent Threats

These things escalated when Sanjay Gaikwad, a Shiv Sena MLA, made a shocking statement. He offered Rs 11 lakh to anyone who would cut off Rahul Gandhi’s tongue. This came after Gandhi suggested that the Congress party might rethink India’s reservation policies once the country becomes truly fair and just. Gaikwad accused Gandhi of trying to trick people with this suggestion and responded with violent threats.

Gandhi’s Call for Equality

At Georgetown University, Gandhi spoke about the need for more fairness in India. He said the Congress would only consider changing reservations when India becomes more equal for everyone. He pointed out that Dalits, tribals, and OBCs are still not represented enough in top positions like business leadership. While some people supported his idea, others like Gaikwad reacted harshly.
