The husband of a 34-year-old Indian mother, who traveled to a remote village in Pakistan to marry him, has shared that she is expected to return to India next month due to her mental distress and longing for her two children.
Anju, who now goes by the name Fatima after her conversion to Islam, married her 29-year-old friend Nasrullah in Pakistan’s Upper Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on July 25. They had initially connected on Facebook in 2019.
“Fatima (Anju) is returning to India next month,” her husband Nasrullah stated during a phone interview with PTI.
He explained, “She is mentally disturbed and badly missing her children, and she had no other option except to go back.”

Anju was previously married to Arvind in Rajasthan, and they share a 15-year-old daughter and a six-year-old son.
Nasrullah expressed concern for her mental well-being, stating, “It is better for her to proceed to her country to meet her children.” He mentioned that once the documentation process in Pakistan is complete, she will return to India, likely next month. He also mentioned his intention to travel to India if granted a visa.
Anju and Nasrullah recently visited Peshawar for the first time since their August marriage. During their visit, Anju expressed her desire to see the ancestral homes of legendary Indian film actors like Dilip Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan in Peshawar. She also shared her appreciation for the unexpected fame she gained in Pakistan.
