It has been over 17 days since the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, and five days since India launched Operation Sindoor in retaliation. When the attack in Pahalgam occurred, the nation’s first thought was: How will Prime Minister Modi respond to such a heinous act? While many expected an immediate address from the Prime Minister, he chose silence-strategic and deliberate-working closely behind the scenes with the three armed forces and the National Security Advisor. Now, after Operation Sindoor struck back with precision, reportedly eliminating over 100 terrorists across the Line of Control- Pakistan, and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, the anticipation has returned- this time, for the words of one of the world’s most powerful leaders. Once again, he chose silence, while the chiefs of the three armed forces stepped forward to brief the nation on both the incident and the response.
The India-Pakistan ceasefire was another moment when we looked to him for answers- on how India planned to respond strategically and just how hard Pakistan had been hit.
PM’s First Address On Operation Sindoor Delivered On Buddha Purnima
Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered his first address after the Pahalgam incident and Operation Sindoor on the occasion of Buddha Purnima. Known for his deep religious beliefs, Modi often chooses auspicious dates and times for significant events. Analysts believe that Prime Minister Modi deliberately chose Buddha Purnima to reveal Pakistan’s involvement and highlight the success of the bold Operation Sindoor. The day, dedicated to Lord Buddha- an enduring symbol of peace and eternity- provided a powerful backdrop for such a significant announcement. He also highlighted the significance of Buddha Purnima, stating that maintaining peace is a form of power.
He stated that India is peace-loving, but the way to peace will be paved with strength. In his first public remarks since Operation Sindoor, PM Modi referred to the day being Buddha Jayanti, and said India hit so hard in three days that Pakistan approached pleading for peace. The address resonated with the themes of peace, compassion, and global harmony- core teachings of Lord Buddha.
On the day of Buddha Purnima, he took to X and wrote:

‘Bharat ne Pakistan ke seene par vaar kiya’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement, “Pakistan ki tayyari seema par vaar ki thi lekin Bharat ne Pakistan ke seene par vaar kar diya,” which means, “Pakistan had prepared for an attack on the border, but India struck at the heart of Pakistan.” This declaration, made on Monday, set a firm and clear tone in his address to the nation, sending a strong message to Pakistan after India’s cross-border military operation, Operation Sindoor. The Prime Minister confirmed that while the operation has been paused, India is still vigilant and remains alert to any further developments.
PM Modi underlined that Operation Sindoor, a strike against terror infrastructure in Pakistan in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, was not just an operation but a doctrinal change and a policy against terrorism.
