The Tirupati Laddu, one of the purest offerings from one of India’s richest temples, has come under a major controversy with allegations surfacing that animal fat is used in making the laddus. The Kerala Congress’s official Twitter account posted a stream of similar tweets on the issue and mocked how many were pained by sharing the same experience. This is amidst some serious political tensions, for the Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda asked Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to furnish the report on the matter at the earliest.

Serious Accusations And Political Reactions
The drama went all that way when Chandrababu Naidu of the ruling Telugu Desam Party, accused the previous government led by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, of turning in low-grade material to prepare the Tirupati Laddu. It was animal fat he said, that led to widespread political furore. The YSR Congress Party responded swiftly to the Naidu remarks as “serious allegations” for political mileage. The Telugu Desam Party lab report responded with the fact that ghee used in laddus had animal fat in them, and the heat quotient rose indeed.

The post was written “For 2-3 years, the mother would get sick after tasting the Laddu and would warn her family not to eat too much of it. They dismissed her concerns as typical overreactions about hygiene. However, now they wonder if she sensed that something was truly wrong with the Laddu.”

As the row snowballed, claims began emerging that the ghee used in making the sacred prasad contained other items too including beef, pig fat, and fish oil. This claim has been proved in lab tests. This appears to be having the effect of infuriating the devotees as well as political leaders. Some of the key voices on the issue are former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Jagan Mohan Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi among others. The BJP is now calling for a CBI inquiry as an attack against Hinduism.
