Om Birla, the Lok Sabha Speaker, fulfilled a six-year-old promise by attending the wedding of a daughter of a Pulwana martyr and performing the genuine wedding ritual in Rajasthan’s Kota area. Birla carried out the ceremonies that are typically performed by the bride’s brother or mother’s family when she marries.
Connection To The Family
Om Birla is a member of Parliament who represents the Kota-Bundi constituency, was physically present at the wedding of Reena, who is 25 years old and is the daughter of Hemeraj Meena, who was martyred in the Pulwama attack, and the wedding took place in Kota’s Sangod area.
Who Was Hemraj Meena?
Hemraj Meena was a head constable in the Central Reserve Police Force. He lived for a month Vinod Kalan village, in Sangod, Rajasthan. Hemraj Meena is survived by his wife, Madhubala Meena, and daughter, Reena. The CRPF head constable was killed during the terror attack in Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir, in 2019. Om Birla promised to support Hemraj’s family after his death. Since then, Om Birla has celebrated festivals with them and has been engaged with them.
Honoring A Commitment
Honoring a Commitment Birla, acting as the brother of Reena’s mother Madhubala, participated in the ‘mayra’ ritual, a customary Hindu wedding ceremony in which the bride’s uncle offers gifts to her mother in honor of the marriage of her niece. He was also accompanied by the State Energy Minister Heeralal Nagar. Birla bestowed the ‘odhni’ party, along with other gifts, to Madhubala during the wedding. He also paid respect to Hemraj Meena, a martyr, and participated in several wedding rituals.
‘Moment Of Pride’
Sharing pictures from the ceremony on X (formerly Twitter), Birla wrote, “My heart is filled with pride and joy that our daughter Reena is now going to start her new life. This occasion is not only full of emotion for the family, but is also a moment of pride, when the years of loving upbringing, sanskar and hopes have come true. Martyr Hemraj Meena Ji’s unique sacrifice and unwavering patriotism for the nation have always been a source of inspiration for all of us.”
