Gangster-turned-politician Dular Chand Yadav, once known for his close ties with prominent political leaders in Bihar, was shot dead near Patna on Thursday while campaigning for the Bihar Assembly elections. The Taal area of Mokama, about 100 kilometers from Patna, witnessed a bloody feud as Yadav was brutally murdered amid the election fever in Bihar. The incident has not only shaken the region’s political landscape but also raised fears of an impending gang war.
Yadav was once considered a close associate of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav. Later, he developed close ties with Janata Dal (United) leader Anant Singh. Recently, he had been actively supporting Priyadarshi Piyush, a candidate from Prashant Kishor’s party, Jan Suraaj. Yadav was regarded as one of the few figures in the Mokama-Taal area with a strong influence on local politics.
Who was Dular Chand Yadav?
Dular Chand, a resident of Mokama in Bihar’s Patna district, was fond of wrestling and singing. Once a supporter of Anant Singh, he was backing Jan Suraaj in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. Reportedly, he had been speaking out against Singh on social media for some time. Yadav had recorded a campaign song for Jan Suraaj candidate Priyadarshi Piyush.
Yadav was considered one of the influential figures in the area during the 1980s and 1990s. In the 1990s, he came into contact with RJD chied Lalu Yadav and contested the assembly election from Mokama. After his defeat, Yadav remained active in politics, associating with several parties and leaders. He was a resident of Tartar village under the Ghoswari police station area of Mokama. Several cases had been registered against him in the Ghoswari and Barh police stations of Patna. Yadav also had a criminal background that contributed to his political influence in Mokama.
Known as the ‘King of the Taal’
Yadav had become a vocal critic of JDU candidate and renowned strongman Anant Singh during the election campaign. He made several sharp public statements against him. Known for his fearless style and strong local influence, Yadav was also known as the “King of the Taal.” It is believed that the electoral contest in Mokama has now turned into a personal rivalry and violent confrontation.
How was Dular Chand Yadav killed?
Yadav’s political influence has long been linked to a controversial past. According to reports, in 2019, Yadav was arrested in the Patna and was labelled a “notorious gangster.” In the Taal area of Ghoswari, Yadav had been accompanying the election campaign convoy of Jan Suraaj Party candidate Piyush when the attack occurred. Piyush has blamed Singh’s supporters for the murder. He claimed that the attackers first brutally beat Yadav with sticks and then shot him.
