Who Is Subhankar Sarkar? The New President Of WBPCC Who Replaced Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury

The Congress party on Saturday appointed Subhankar Sarkar as the new president of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC), replacing veteran leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

Sarkar has been relieved of his duties as All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary.

Senior Congress leader K.C. Venugopal announced in an official notice that they appointed Sarkar as the West Bengal unit chief, relieving him of his role as AICC Secretary

Who Is Subhankar Sarkar?

Subhankar Sarkar is a long-standing associate of the Congress party. He played the role of the Congress National Secretary and state-in-charge of Odisha from the year 2013 to 2018. He also held diverse responsibilities within the party.

He became the National Secretary of the Congress Committee on August 30, 2024, and was also in charge of three states: Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Mizoram. He contested the 2021 WB Assembly polls as a Congress candidate from Noapara.

Entry Into Politics

Sarkar entered the political arena during his college days.

He was the National General Secretary and Spokesperson of the National Students’ Union of India from 1993 to 1996.

He also served as the State President for the West Bengal National Students’ Union of India and Chhatra Parishad from 1996 to 2004.

He worked as a National General Secretary of the Indian Youth Congress from 2004 to 2006.
