Who is Sajjad Gul alias Sajad Ahmad Sheikh?

He is the founder of ‘The Resistance Front’ (TRF), an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Toiba, blamed for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. He is considered to be the mastermind behind one of the most notorious terrorist attacks, which killed 25 tourists and a local ponywala.

Sajjad Ahmed Sheikh based at Cantonment town of Rawalpindi, Pakistan has been a planner of a number of terror attacks that had happened between 2020 and 2024. He is considered to be majorly involved in many targeted killings in Central and South Kashmir, grenade attacks in Central Kashmir in 2023, ambush of J&K police personnel in Bijbehra in Anantnag, Gagangir, Z-Morh Tunnel attack in Ganderbal. In April 22, the NIA had designated him a terrorist and kept a reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head related to Pahalgam terror attack.

Sajjad Gul's involvement in Pahalgam Terror Attack

During the investigation of the Pahalgam terror attack, links and proofs have led the NIA to Sajjad Gul, who is considered to be the mastermind of the attack, which killed 25 tourists and one local ponywala in Kashmir's heaven, Pahalgam. The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Toiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack, and the TRF was founded by Sajjad Gul.

On April 22 in Pahalgam, the group, following Gul’s orders, shot 25 tourists at close range after asking their religion. A local tourist guide was also killed.

The ISI, Pakistan’s intelligence agency, used Sheikh as a local Kashmiri face for the mostly Punjabi Lashkar-e-Taiba. He studied in Srinagar, completed an MBA in Bangalore, and later took a lab technician course in Kerala. After returning to Kashmir, he opened a diagnostic lab and helped the terror group with logistics.
