Actor-turned-politician Ranjana Nachiyaar made headlines by quitting BJP on Wednesday. Ranjana resigned from party’s membership in protest against the three-language imposition. She called the policy wrong while sharing her resignation post on X. Ranjana has joined TVK (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam), a party led by actor Vijay.
She said, “I, Ranjana Nachiyar, who has served in various capacities in the BJP for over eight years, am resigning from the party. I am relieving myself of all responsibilities, including the responsibility of a basic member, with effect from today.”

Who Is Ranjana Nachiyaar?
Ranjana Nachiyaar is a popular Tamil actress and producer. She is known for her roles in blockbuster films like Thupparivalan, Irumbu Thirai, Natpe Thunai, and Annathey. Born in Madurai, Ranjana comes from a prestigious lineage. She is the great-granddaughter of Raja Baskara Sethupathy, the monarch of the Ramanathapuram Samasthanam. She is the niece of National Award-winning filmmaker Bala.
Beyond acting, Ranjana has tried her hands into film productions also. She owns Star Film Productions, and produced notable films like Pugazhendhi Enum Naan and Thirumathi Hitler. She served in various roles within the BJP for over eight years.
Ranjana was arrested in 2023. She was detained for allegedly beating and abusing students who were travelling in a government bus. Moreover, she was accused of verbally abusing the bus driver. Several videos had surfaced in which Ranjana could be seen claiming to be a police officer while abusing the driver to ensure the passengers’ safety.
