In Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Central Jail, ricin terror plot accused Ahmed Mohiuddin Syed was attacked by other undertrial inmates. Syed, who is facing serious terror charges, received injuries during the assault. He was earlier arrested by the Gujarat ATS for allegedly planning a major ricin-based attack in India. Officers had recovered a chemical liquid from him, which was later confirmed to be ricin, a deadly poison far more dangerous than cyanide. Two other doctors were also arrested along with him.
China-Trained doctor behind alleged mass poison plot
Dr. Ahmed Mohiuddin Syed, an MBBS graduate from China. Using his medical training, he had reportedly been extracting ricin from castor seeds for a long time. According to investigators, he planned to use this poison to trigger large-scale deaths by mixing it in water or even temple prasad in cities like Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Lucknow, making it one of the biggest planned mass poisonings in the world.
Syed, along with his associates Mohd. Suhel and Azad were arrested by the Gujarat ATS. The group was in touch with ISIS handlers through Telegram, and they were also communicating with Pakistani handlers who were allegedly supplying them weapons via drones. Authorities believe the arrests prevented a major terror attack in the country.
Ahmed Mohiuddin was arrested by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on November 8 near the Adalaj toll plaza. After his arrest, several shocking details came to light. He had recently returned to India after completing his MBBS in China and is accused of having links with the terror group ISIS-Khorasan Province (ISKP). Ahmed, originally from Hyderabad, is alleged to have planned a mass killing using a deadly toxin called ricin.
Investigators also found that he and two of his associates had surveyed crowded locations in Ahmedabad and Lucknow as part of their planning.
Jail authorities seek FIR after inmate clash
Jail Superintendent Gaurav Agarwal said the jail authorities have asked the local police to file an FIR after the clash inside Sabarmati Central Jail. He confirmed that Syed is safe and no longer in danger. Agarwal said, “For reasons that are still unclear, a fight broke out between Syed and three other inmates.”
During the investigation into the ricin poisoning plot, the ATS searched Syed’s home in Hyderabad and found several unidentified chemicals and raw materials. An official said that after completing their police custody, all three accused were recently sent to judicial custody at Sabarmati Central Jail by a local court.
