Justice Harish Tandon was on Friday, March 21, 2025, appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court. The Ministry of Law and Justice notified his appointment as the next Chief Justice. At present, he serves as the Judge of the Calcutta High Court. The official notification stated that the President had approved Justice Harish Tandon’s appointment to this esteemed position.
This significant decision has been made under the powers vested by Article 217 Clause (1) of the Constitution of India. Justice Tandon is set to assume office on the specified date. According to reports, the Collegium led by Chief Justice of India, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, recommended him for the position of Chief Justice of Orissa High Court Judge. The development comes in the wake of the vacancy created after the retirement of Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh on January 19, 2025.
Who Is Justice Harish Tandon?
Justice Harish Tandon was appointed as Calcutta High Court’s judge on April 13, 2010. Ever since he has been a crucial part of its functioning. He secured 7th rank in the All-India Seniority of High Court Judges, including Chief Justices. He also holds several positions including senior puisne judge in his parent court.
Justice Tandon holds a strong background in civil law. He also has years of experience as a practitioner in the Calcutta High Court. Meanwhile, he is mostly recognized for his competence, high ethical values, and judicial vision.
