32 FIRs have been registered against popular hairstylist Jawed Habib, his son, and an associate in UP’s Sambhal. The three are accused of defrauding investors by promising high returns under a scheme run in the name of Follicle Global Company (CLC).
Jawed and his associates allegedly promised investors returns of 50–70% on Bitcoin purchases. In the name of this scheme, the accused collected Rs 5–7 lakh from each investor. However, investors claimed that even after two years, they did not receive any returns. The financial fraud is estimated to be worth Rs 5–7 crore. After issuing summons for questioning, authorities have now issued a lookout notice to prevent the trio from leaving the country.
“After a detailed probe, 32 FIRs have been registered against Jawed Habib, his son Anos, and an associate named Saiful. They were issued notices to appear for questioning,” said Raia Satti police station in-charge Govind Kumar.
Who is Jawed Habib?
Jawed was born on June 26, 1963. He comes from a family of hairstylists. His father and grandfather were the favourites of the country’s top-notch leaders such as Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and APJ Abdul Kalam. His grandfather, Nazir Ahmed, was the official hairdresser to British viceroys like Lord Linlithgow and Lord Mountbatten, as well as India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Habib began his career in 1984, joining his father’s salon at The Oberoi Hotel in New Delhi. He is trained at the Morris School of Hairdressing in London. He is quite popular as a Bollywood celebrity’s hair stylist. He built his brand around affordable, accessible hair and beauty services, including quick water-free options.
‘Jawed Habib has heart problem’- says the lawyer
On Sunday, Habib’s lawyer Pawan Kumar said that Habib is having heart problems. He cited his ill health as the reason for his absence in the court.
“My client has heart problems and recently lost his father. He is unwell and unable to appear in person, but we are cooperating fully with the police,” Kumar said after visiting the police station.
The lawyer further said that Habib has full faith in the judiciary, adding, “We believe the police will act fairly. The allegations are under investigation and we are ready to cooperate at every stage.”
Jawed Habib joined BJP
In April 2019, Jawed Habib, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a decision that sparked varied reactions on social media. Commenting on his move, Habib expressed admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that he was deeply inspired by Modi’s unapologetic acknowledgement of his humble beginnings as a tea seller.
