Following the chaos that unfolded during footballer Lionel Messi’s GOAT India Tour in Kolkata, West Bengal Sports Minister Aroop Biswas has resigned from his position. The minister tendered his resignation on Tuesday, which was accepted by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The move comes after West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose called for Biswas’ resignation and demanded action against all government officials deemed to have “vicarious liability” for the incident that took place at Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan (VYBK), Salt Lake, on December 13.

What happened during Kolkata Messi tour?
The Kolkata leg of Messi’s GOAT India tour descended into chaos on Saturday as fans, who had paid high ticket prices, began throwing bottles and attempting to break gates between the stands after the Argentine footballer left the venue early. Frustrated fans vandalised parts of the stadium, and blamed poor event management. They criticised VIPs and politicians for monopolising Messi’s attention as they couldn’t even get a glimpse of the football star.

Meanwhile, a Special Investigation Team comprising IPS officers Piyush Pandey, Javed Shamim, Supratim Sarkar and Muralidhar has been constituted to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
