When is Diwali- 20th or 21st?
Diwali 2025 is on October 20. The Amavasya Tithi begins on October 20 and ends on October 21. Lakshmi Puja is scheduled between 7:08 PM and 8:18 PM. According to the Hindu calendar and as mentioned in a report by The Times of India, Diwali is celebrated on the Amavasya Tithi of the Kartik month. In 2025, this Amavasya Tithi starts at 3:44 PM on October 20 and ends at 5:54 PM on October 21. Since the Amavasya begins before sunset on October 20, most Panchang calculations mark Monday, October 20, 2025, as the day for Diwali and Lakshmi Puja.
School Closure for 5 days due to Diwali
The long school break is meant to give students enough time to celebrate and spend time with their families. Parents should check the exact holiday schedule with their child’s school, as it may differ from one state or school to another.
The Diwali school holidays will last for five days, starting from Dhanteras and ending on Bhai Dooj. Dhanteras, which falls on October 18, is not a government holiday, but many schools that usually close on the second Saturday will remain closed. The official holidays begin on October 19 (Sunday) and continue till October 23.
Schools will stay closed for Narak Chaturdashi, also called Chhoti Diwali, on October 19. The main Diwali day is on October 20, which is a public holiday in most states.
