The Uttar Pradesh government is going to take a major initiative to give a new direction to the comprehensive development of Lucknow and its surrounding districts.
SCR means State Capital Region. The Uttar Pradesh government has planned to develop the capital Lucknow and its surrounding 5 districts in a planned manner on the lines of NCR (National Capital Region).
This plan will not only improve the infrastructure of Lucknow, but will also reduce the increasing population pressure on the capital. The total area of these five districts included in the SCR is about 27,826 square kilometers.
The districts included in the SCR along with Lucknow are:
- Hardoi (in the west direction),
- Sitapur (in the north direction),
- Unnao (in the south-west),
- Rae Bareli (in the south-east),
- Barabanki (in the east direction).
This plan is considered to be an important initiative towards the balanced and holistic development of the capital region and its surrounding districts.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will make public the 40-page summary prepared under SCR. Also, a new logo for SCR is being prepared through a competition under public participation. Online portals and suggestion boxes are also planned to seek opinions from citizens.
The plan talks about creating a balance of residential, industrial, commercial and green areas, and its blueprint has been prepared on the lines of Delhi-NCR and Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The project includes expansion of Lucknow Metro, widening of highways and ring roads, affordable housing, redevelopment of slum areas, digital facilities, promotion of solar energy, setting up of industrial areas and special economic zones (SEZs), startup and skill development centres, BRTS and electric buses. Conservation of Gomti river and water management are also among the key themes.
According to officials, the SCR project will be a significant step towards making Lucknow a modern, green and globally smart city, leading to significant improvement in infrastructure, employment and living standards in the region.
