As India celebrates Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Divas, President Droupadi Murmu kicked off the celebrations marking 75 years of adoption of India’s Constitution by delivering a joint address to both Houses of Parliament today, November 26. In her speech, she said, “In the last few years, the government has taken several steps for the welfare of all sections of society, especially the weaker sections. The poor are getting their own houses and world-class infrastructure is being developed in the country.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attended the celebrations held at the Auditorium, Administrative Building Complex of the Supreme Court of India.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers, Members of Parliament, Heads of Missions based in Delhi, and other dignitaries were also present at the event.
What Is Constitution Day?
Constitution Day is observed on November 26 every year – the day when India’s Constitution was adopted, which came into effect on January 26, 1950, when India officially became a republic. In 2015, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment declared November 26 as Constitution Day to pay tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constitution, on his 125th birth anniversary.
Purpose Of Celebrating Constitution Day
The main purpose of celebrating Constitution Day is to pay homage to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar who is widely regarded as the Father of the Indian Constitution and raise awareness about the constitutional values, rights, and duties. The day highlights the constitution’s role in establishing India as a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic, ensuring justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity to all citizens of India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to the people of India on Tuesday on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Constitution.
