In a major security operation near Delhi, the Jammu and Kashmir Police recovered 300 kg of RDX, an AK-47 rifle, and several rounds of ammunition from Faridabad, Haryana. This significant seizure came just days after the arrest of Dr. Adil Ahmad Rather, a Kashmiri doctor from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, accused of putting up posters supporting the terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed in Srinagar. According to police sources, the Faridabad recovery was made based on information revealed during Dr. Rather’s interrogation. The explosives were reportedly kept with another doctor, Mujahil Shakeel, who is now under investigation.

Earlier, police had also found an AK-47 rifle and ammunition in a locker belonging to Dr. Rather at the Government Medical College, Anantnag. Authorities are now probing deeper into the possible terror links and network behind this large-scale arms recovery.

What is Ansar Gazwatul Hind?

Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind was an Islamist militant group linked to al-Qaeda that operated in Kashmir. Its main goal was to establish an independent Islamic state in Kashmir governed by Sharia law. The group claimed to be fighting a jihad against what it called the Indian occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.

Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, formed in Kashmir and linked to al-Qaeda, opposed groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen for rejecting global jihad movements. Its leader, Zakir Musa, criticized Pakistan’s ISI for “betraying Kashmir’s jihad” and declared the group’s goal to free Kashmir from Pakistani influence while enforcing Sharia law under Shia-Sunni unity. Musa urged Kashmiri Pandits to return, assuring their safety. Though Hizbul Mujahideen leader Syed Salahuddin dismissed the group as Indian propaganda, Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind later allied with Pakistan-based factions, declaring jihad against India and rejecting democracy as un-Islamic, aiming instead to expand an Islamic caliphate in Jammu and Kashmir.

AK-47 Recovered from GMC Anantnag Locker

Dr. Adil Ahmad Rather, a medicine specialist and former resident doctor at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, was arrested by Srinagar Police from Saharanpur for allegedly putting up posters supporting the banned terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Srinagar last month.

A native of Qazigund in Anantnag district and son of Abdul Majeed Rather, he worked at GMC Anantnag until October 24, 2024, before being transferred to Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a team backed by the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) Anantnag raided GMC and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition from Dr. Rather’s personal locker.

After his arrest, another doctor was detained for questioning. Both Dr. Rather and the recovered weapon are in Srinagar Police custody as the investigation continues to uncover the source of the weapons, the reasons for possessing them, and any possible links to larger terror networks.
