The body of a student studying at IIT-Kharagpur was found in his hostel room, said officials.
The deceased was identified as Shaon Malik. The deceased was a student of Electrical engineering. She was found dead in his room when his parents came to meet him.
According to officials, the deceased on the previous night had a conversation with his parents over the phone and everything seemed fine.
According to media reports, the Institute will be conducting an internal investigation and will take steps to avoid such incidents in the future said the official.
As quoted by NDTV, IIT Kharagpur issued a statement in which they mentioned, “With a sense of utter shock, the students, staff, and faculty members deeply mourn the sudden loss of Shaon Malik, a third-year student from the Department of Electrical Engineering. He was found dead in Azad Hall of Residence premises on the morning of January 12. The institute is devastated by this tragic event. Our foremost priority at this moment is to extend our heartfelt condolences and support to Malik’s family and friends.”
Few days before, the body of junior lab technician at IIT Kharagpur was found in the quarter of the campus. The institute affirmed its
IIT-Kharagpur mentioned that they are committed to supporting the well-being and mental health of its students.
