New Delhi: West Bengal government has increased the DA of government employees by 3%. On Wednesday, Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya presented the budget for the session 2023-24 in the assembly. She announced that the government has extended the stamp duty exemption for home buyers till September 30.
Stamp duty is a tax that is levied on single property purchases or documents. Before a document can be used legally, a physical revenue stamp must be affixed or inscribed on it. This confirms that the stamp duty was paid.

Employees were protesting for increasing DA for a long time
At the same time, the Finance Minister said that the Dearness Allowance (DA) has been increased by 3% in this budget. Earlier, the West Bengal government had increased the dearness allowance of employees and pensioners by 34 per cent. The employees protested that it was less than what the central government was paying 35%.
The employees of the Bengal government were protesting against the DA hike for the last few months. This will provide great relief to the employees and pensioners.
Other announcements of the government
Rs 350 crore startup fund to extend up to Rs 5 lakh to young entrepreneurs. 12,000 km of rural roads are to be constructed at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore, which includes maintenance in the ‘Rastashri’ project. Government announced waiver of agricultural income tax on tea gardens for 2023-24 and 2024-25.
