Kolkata: Union Minister Subhash Sarkar was on Tuesday locked up in the party office in West Bengal’s Bankura by the BJP. Party workers said he was showing “dictatorship” by heading the district unit.
Bangura MP and Minister of State M. Sarkar was chairing a meeting around 1 p.m. when a group of slogan-raising BJP workers marched into the party’s district office and locked him up.
The protesters alleged that Sarkar did not give importance to dedicated party workers and appointed his relatives as district committee members.
“Some of us are brave. We are fighting to save the party. As there was incompetence, this time the BJP did not win any seat in Bankura Municipality. The BJP won two seats in the previous elections,” protesting worker said.
Amid the chaos, another group of BJP workers arrived at the spot and a scuffle broke out between the two sides. Getting the information, a large police team rushed to the party office and rescued Sarkar, a police official said.

Terming the incident unfortunate, BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya said action would be taken against the party workers involved in the incident.
“Such incidents are not acceptable in a decent party like the BJP. If there are any grievances, there is a proper forum to raise them. The incident will be investigated and action taken against the people involved,” the spokesperson said.
