Weather Update: Heavy rain with storms forecast in the next 72 hours

Weather Update: Chennai and its nearby areas are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall in the next hours. It has also warned fishermen not to approach near marine areas for the next five days, until November 12th, according to IMD.

The IMD predicted a low-pressure region will form over the southwest Bay of Bengal on Thursday, November 10, resulting in very heavy rain in areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on November 11.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain for parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Friday, November 11. According to the IMD, a low-pressure region would most likely form over the southwest Bay of Bengal, off the coast of Sri Lanka, around November 9, 2022.

According to the IMD, the low-pressure region is highly likely to proceed northwestwards towards the shores of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, with possibly minor intensification during the next 48 hours.

The plains of North and Central India experience snowfall and rain, according to the Meteorological Department. On November 9, these regions should see cold weather. Many states in the nation, including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, and Odisha, may soon experience cold weather.

Cyclonic circulation

The Bay of Bengal’s cyclonic circulation is also to blame for the recent three to four days of nonstop rain. According to the Meteorological Department, today could bring rain from the north-east monsoon in various regions of the nation, including Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

Weather Activity in the next 24 hours:

During the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain with one or two heavy spells may occur over South Tamil Nadu and southern Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Light to moderate rain may occur over remaining parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala

Light rain is possible over south interior Karnataka, coastal Karnataka and Rayalaseema.

Light to moderate rain and snow is possible over Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad.

Isolated light rain and snow may occur over Uttarakhand.

Today could bring light rain and snow to Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Himachal Pradesh, according to private weather forecasting organisation Skymet Weather. The probability of rain is also present in several areas of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and south interior Karnataka.

In numerous locations, including Punjab, South Assam, and Manipur, rain is possible. On the other hand, most locations in Delhi’s AQI rating are thought to fall into the severe category.

Air quality index of Delhi and NCR to remain in very poor to poor category.
