According to Mrityunjay Mohapatra, Director, India Meteorological Department, the country is more likely to receive normal rainfall in August-September during the south-west monsoon, which is 94 to 106 percent of the ‘Long Period Average’ (LPA). The country received seven per cent excess rainfall during this monsoon season between June 1 and July 31, but rice-producing states of West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Kerala received less rainfall.
According to Mrityunjay Mohapatra, the monthly rainfall in India is expected to be normal in August, which is 94 to 106 percent of the LPA. At the same time, he says that there is a possibility of ‘normal’ to ‘above normal’ rain over most parts of southeast India, northwest India and west-central India, while the west coast and east central, east and northeast India are expected to receive rain. It may rain less.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of rain and thundershowers in Central, West, East and South India for the next two to three days. According to IMD, heavy rains are going to continue over the Western Himalayas for the next two to three days. According to MID, there is a possibility of heavy rain in West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh for the next two to three days. At the same time, there is a possibility of heavy rain in many areas of Kerala today and tomorrow.
There is a forecast of scattered rain daily in Delhi-NCR from today till August 8. According to MID, light rain may occur in Delhi today, on August 4, there is a possibility of moderate rain. At the same time, there is a possibility of light rain on August 5 and 6. While there is a possibility of heavy rain on August 7 and 8.
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain in all the states including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim.
At the same time, according to private weather forecasting agency Skymet Weather, today parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, Lakshadweep are light to light. Moderate rain may occur.
On the other hand, there is a possibility of rain in Gilgit Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Light rain is very likely at one or two places over parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Maharashtra.
