IMD Weather Update: Wintry conditions prevailed across most parts of north India on Wednesday (December 24, 2025), as minimum temperatures remained slightly above average in several regions. Intense cold and dense fog gripped many areas, affecting road and air travel. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that dense fog is likely to impact large parts of the country until December 28, reducing visibility and causing disruptions, especially during early morning and nighttime hours.

Visibility has been severely affected due to foggy conditions in several states. In Delhi-NCR, brief spells of fog led to impaired visibility. The Weather Department has forecast dense fog conditions at isolated or a few places over Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab until December 29. Similar weather conditions are expected to prevail over Bihar on Dec 24, 25, and over the Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, and Odisha till the 28th. The other affected states are Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and northeast India.

Cold wave warning

Residents across north India woke up to a nail-biting cold weather on Wednesday. IMD has predicted cold day conditions in isolated pockets of Jharkhand, East Uttar Pradesh, and East Madhya Pradesh. Bihar will continue to reel under chilly weather until December 28. Additionally, a sharp decline in temperatures is expected to lead to frosty conditions in several states in the coming days.

Delhi-NCR AQI, weather update

Air Quality Index was recoded under the 'very poor' category, slightly below the severe mark. Delhi choked under ‘toxic smog’ as air quality deteriorated to 355 at 7 am today, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi has forecast AQI to remain under the 'very poor' category until December 26. IMD has issued a yellow alert in the national capital in view of dense fog at isolated places during morning hours on December 26.
