Earlier, the weather agency had predicted the onset of southwest monsoon withdrawal from the country between September 19 and 25. Normally, the monsoon reaches Kerala on June 1 and spreads across the country by July 8, but this year, it reached Kerala a week prior to May 30. The monsoon usually begins withdrawing from northwest India around September 17 and withdraws completely by October 15.
As the monsoon withdrawal begins, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued an alert for intensified rainfall. It has forecasted cumbersome to hefty showers in Coastal and North Interior Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Goa in the next three days. Heavy rain showers are predicted in central, eastern, and northeastern India between September 24-27.
