Meanwhile, it has been raining and snowing on the high peaks of the Himalayas for several days. It has been pouring in the southern states for several days as well. At the same time, people in Northern and Central India are experiencing pink fever.
Meteorological Department forecast
Even today, the Meteorological Department has expected snowfall and rain in various districts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand due to this episode. The temperature has progressively plummeted to below zero due to snowfall and rain on the slopes.
Hill states blanketed in snow
For the past several days, the hill states have been blanketed in snow. As a result, temperatures have plunged to – negative in many regions, and snow accumulation on roads has blocked and hindered traffic.
Effect of mercury
According to the Meteorological Department, the effect of mercury lowering constantly in hilly areas will be witnessed across North and Central India in the coming days. Many states in the country, including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, and Odisha, are expected to experience increasing cold during the next one to two days.
In the next two days, the IMD predicts light to moderate rain in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. According to the Meteorological Department, isolated mild to moderate rain in one or two locations may occur over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Lakshadweep, and Punjab. Over Rajasthan, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh, light rain is probable. Snow and rain are possible in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh.
Weather in next 24 hours
Today, rain is expected in coastal Andhra Pradesh, interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, Kerala, Lakshadweep, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, according to private weather forecasting organisation Skymet Weather.
Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Jammu Kashmir Snow and rain are expected in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. With the onset of dry and cold northwesterly winds today, minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to fall over Northwest and Central India.
