New Delhi: According to IMD reports, the monsoon was to reach Delhi by June 27, but it reached two days earlier as heavy rain was witnessed in the national capital overnight. IMD said that both Mumbai and Delhi were together for the first time and witnessed a monsoon since June 21, 1961. Dr Mrityunjay Mohapatra, Director General, IMD said, "Monsoon has also arrived in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and parts of Haryana, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab and Jammu. It will move forward in the next 2 days and will cover other parts also." In the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Sunday, the Safdarjung Observatory recorded 48.3 mm of rain. The monsoon usually arrives in Kerala by June 1, Mumbai by June 11, and the national capital on June 27. The monsoon's path this year, on the other hand, was unexpected. On June 26, significant rain is expected in scattered locations across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi, according to the IMD. It has also forecast thunderstorms with lightning and strong gusts (30-40 kmph) in scattered locations over Uttar Pradesh, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, and other states.
