Monsoon has returned to Delhi and brought relief from the scorching heat as temperatures have dipped in the region. Heavy rainfall in Delhi NCR has cooled the weather quite a bit while parts of western Uttar Pradesh are witnessing heavy downpours resulting in flooding. The roads are waterlogged, and residents are facing the issue of water-logged streets.
River Overflows Cause Crop Losses
Overflows have been reported in the Ramganga and Kosi rivers in Uttar Pradesh. The water is flooding the fields, and farmers are reporting huge losses. However, reports have poured in that the water levels of these two rivers are receding. Erosion has begun to happen at few places. In the hills, afternoon rains resulted in the falling of rockslides on several important roads.
More Heavy Rains to Lash States, Said The IMD
The IMD has predicted more heavy rains in several parts of the country. It has, however, predicted continued rains in the desert state of Rajasthan for the next three days. Most parts of the state are on a high alert. Like its predecessor in Uttarakhand, this state too has issued a thunderstorm with heavy rains warning which could be prevalent even till September 19. There was minimal rainfall in most areas of the districts and administrative regions until the afternoon. But even now, the weather office has issued a warning about possible torrential rains.
Heavy Rainfall Likely In North And South India
Strong activity is likely to continue for the next 12 hours in northwest India and eastern UP as the weather outfit has predicted heavy rain all over the region. On the other hand, south Indian states-coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep-are likely to receive light to heavy rainfall during the period. Most other regions will likely be affected by heavy rains during the week, with Manipur, Puducherry, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and Mizoram.
Overflowing rivers And Streams Add To Flood Woes
North India experienced its highest rainfall of the season last week which led to overflow from rivers, streams, and ponds. From Delhi NCR to Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, many areas suffered and parts of western UP are still facing severe floods. However, water levels in most rivers are slowly receding, offering some relief.
