Weather Report: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) says that India will experience a lot of rain this September, with some areas seeing heavy or very heavy rainfall. This comes after a rainy period from June to August. Most of India will get more rain than usual, but some parts in the far northwest and the south might have less rain than normal.

IMD forecasts that the rainfall for September will be 109% of the normal average, which is a hint at a good monsoon. The department says Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, partial regions of Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh will receive an adequate amount of rainfall. These areas might receive extremely heavy rainfalls that could invite flood-related problems and landslides.

Weather Expectations In September

Apart from heavy rainfall, September is expected to be hotter than normal. Most parts of India have been forecast with above-average temperatures, and thus hot. Only the northwest and some areas of the southern peninsula may show near-normal to a bit below-normal temperatures. Nights are likely to remain warmer than usual in most areas, though temperatures in some regions might be closer to normal or a bit below average.

August’s Rainfall Records Highest Incidents

IMD added that August also saw the highest incidences of heavy rain, which stood second in the last five years. Heavy rainfall overpowers areas of Gujarat, the western coast, eastern India, and Rajasthan. For instance, Karauli in Rajasthan got 380 mm of rain, Bagafa in Tripura recorded 494 mm, and Khambhalia and Jamnagar areas of Gujarat received 430 mm and 380 mm of rainfall accordingly.

From the map prepared by IMD, it is clear that most parts of the country received normal or more rain, except for places like Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir. With the possibility of more rain and hotter temperatures, people in the coming month will face challenges from the weather.
