Weather Report: The India Meteorological Department said on Sunday that a deep depression formed over Gangetic West Bengal and parts of Bangladesh and that they had started moving west-south-westwards. It would gradually become a ‘depression’ in the next 24 hours, the IMD said. IMD issued warnings for ‘very heavy to heavy rainfall’ over Gangetic West Bengal and Kolkata while ‘extremely heavy rainfall’ would occur at some places in southern Gangetic West Bengal.
Heavy Rainfall Warning For Several States
IMD has issued an alert for heavy rain over several states, which include Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh. Light to moderate rain is expected in Gangetic West Bengal with isolated places receiving heavy to very heavy rain. Extremely heavy rain is also anticipated in South Gangetic West Bengal throughout the day. The IMD’s Doppler Weather Radar in Kolkata has been continuously scanning the deep depression, which is likely to move west-south-westward across Jharkhand and North Chhattisgarh by Sunday evening and would further weaken.
Orange And Red Alerts
Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura will experience orange alerts from September 15 to 16. Assam and Meghalaya will stay in the same level of alert from September 18 to 20. Jharkhand will also be under orange alert due to heavy rain; however, West Bengal and Odisha will face a red alert as announced by the IMD. Flash floods are also reported in some areas.
Advisory For Fishermen In Bengal
The IMD issued an advisory asking fishermen to stay away from the northern Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh, West Bengal, and Odisha coasts till September 16 morning as a result of the high seas. “Rough sea conditions are likely to prevail in the northern Bay of Bengal and along the West Bengal-Odisha coast till the morning of September 16.”
Northern And Southern India Weather Update
The IMD predicts heavy falls during September 16 and September 17 over parts of Uttar Pradesh in northern India. Light to moderate falls can be expected on September 16 over eastern Uttar Pradesh and on September 17 over western Uttar Pradesh, north-west India. Light to moderate falls are probable over the coastal parts of Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep in southern India during the week. There may be scattered rains over other districts of the south.
Weather Update Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan
In Himachal Pradesh, IMD has sounded a ‘yellow’ alert for Sunday and Wednesday, forecasting strong winds, and thundershowers with rain in six districts. It will continue raining in the state till September 21. Rain has retreated from much of Rajasthan, though some light rain reported in the east. The western parts of the state remain mostly dry, and this is most likely for the next few days too.

The concentration of PM2.5 in the air is 2.9 times higher than the guidelines set by the World Health Organization for ensuring safety levels. Such high levels of pollution are unhealthy for everyone to breathe in, especially sensitive groups.

The PM2.5 level in the city still stands at 1.9 times the World Health Organization’s recommendation for safe 24-hour air quality. That is to say, the air is not too bad, but visitors with respiratory issues should still exercise restraint.
