Vinita Chaitanya, an interior designer from Bengaluru, often shares posts about home design, lifestyle, and nature on Instagram. On April 24, just a few days after the Pahalgam attack where 26 people were killed, she posted a peaceful video of her sunrise shikara ride in Srinagar.
She shared that her calm and beautiful boat ride happened at a time when many people were feeling sad, angry, and helpless after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22.

Vinita explores Dal Lake despite fear after attack
On April 23, Vinita shared that she chose not to cancel her Shikara ride, even after the recent terror attack. In her video, she is seen talking to local Kashmiri sellers and enjoying a peaceful ride through Dal Lake.

She explored quiet, beautiful corners of the lake in the soft morning light, with fewer people around. One of the best parts of the video was the floating markets where locals sold flowers and handmade crafts.

Vinita shares her feelings after the attack in Srinagar
Vinita wrote about her peaceful shikara ride and how they had booked it before reaching Srinagar. She said the past two days had been very sad and tense beacuse of the attack. She also went for a drive with her local driver and noticed how the people around her were feeling a deep sense of loss, along with anger, sadness, and helplessness.
Vinita shared that she and her group decided not to cancel their shikara ride. She said,“And last night we decided not to cancel the shikara booked. It was a lovely sunrise... and yes, there were only a couple of tourist boats out. Obviously, the news amongst the community spread, and we had some bold and extremely smart vendors stop by in their boats. The flower boats are my favourites: I land up buying seeds and bulbs with great enthusiasm, and they see my interest and are soooo smart… and then the kahwa tea vendors and the guys with trinkets and leather goods…”
Vinita ended her post by saying, “Some cash (like I said, so smart) and lots of humour was exchanged. I think though that we gave them a tiny bit of joy, and hope. And for us – smiles and laughter was exchanged and we lost ourselves in their world for a beautiful hour.”
