WB Panchayat polls: The voting for Panchayat polls in West Bengal began on Saturday morning amid the tight security.
However, a case of violence was reported just hours ahead of Panchayat polls. A house in Murshidabad was vandalised as the Trinamol Congress and Congress came to lock their horns on Friday night.
There were reports of violence in the state around the filing of nominations. After getting the report of the incident a team from the local police station reached the spot.
In another incident, the home of a BJP candidate in West Bengal was allegedly attacked by Trinamool TMC workers.
The vandalisation took place in the Kalmati area of Bamanhat II Gram Panchayat of Dinhata. The injured are rushed to the private hospital for treatment in Coochbehar.
Voting is going on for the Panchayat elections in West Bengal from 7 am, which will end at 5 pm. Voting is going on for a total of 63,229 gram panchayat seats. Voters are electing candidates for 9,730
Panchayat Samiti seats and 928 Zilla Parishad seats. Meanwhile, violence also took place at many places. 83 thousand personnel of central forces have been deployed for voting.
Along with this, armed police of 19 states are also deployed. There is a triangular contest between the BJP, the Congress and the Trinamool Congress in the panchayat elections.
At stake is the reputation of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, CM Mamata Banerjee and Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary. The results will come on May 11.
BJP’s polling agent Madhab Biswas was shot dead during elections in Coochbehar. The charge of murder is on a TMC worker.
There has been violence in Cooch Behar’s Sitai. Unidentified miscreants vandalized Booth 6/130, Barvita Primary School.
A clash broke out between CPI(M) and TMC workers ahead of voting in Dhulai village of Sonamukhi in Bankura district. During this, 16 people have been injured.
