Vadodara: In a major archaeological breakthrough, a historic fort wall has been discovered in Vadodara district of Gujarat. The fort wall uncovered during excavation behind Aradhana Talkies of the city dates back to centuries. Historians have estimated the wall to be from the 18th century. The reins were discovered during the excavation of the Vishwamitra River.
Interestingly, the wall has been depicted in several paintings by the British artists. According to reports, the historic wall was constructed using a mixture of lime and other materials.

Notably, the Mughal Empire was declining in India during the 18th century. Amid the decline of Mughals, regional powers like Maratha were growing. The century also saw rising influence of British East India Company who was trying to establish its dominance in the subcontinent.
If we talk about who ruled Gujarat in the 18th century, it was Maratha Confederacy and particularly the Gaekwads of Baroda. The Gaekwads later accepted the British sovereignty, according to historical facts.
