The ‘Surya Tilak’ ceremony took place on April 17 at approximately 12 PM. Lasting approximately two to two-and-a-half minutes, this celestial event saw the formation of a 58-millimeter ‘surya tilak’ on the forehead of Ram Lalla. This Ram Navami marked a significant milestone as it was the first celebration since the idol of Lord Ram was consecrated at the new temple by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 22.

The ‘Surya Tilak’ was facilitated by a sophisticated mechanism intricately designed with mirrors and lenses. This mechanism effectively redirected the Sun’s rays into the sanctum sanctorum from the third floor near the shikara, enabling the mesmerizing illumination of the deity’s forehead. Sunlight is focused on the statue’s forehead using mirrors and lenses. The apparatus was created by experts from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Astrophysics.

Anil Mishra, a member of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, previously mentioned, “During the Surya Tilak, devotees will have the opportunity to enter the Ram temple. The temple trust is setting up approximately 100 LED screens, with an additional 50 provided by the government, to broadcast the Ram Navami celebrations. This will allow people to witness the festivities from their respective locations.”
