Red alert issued for hilly areas

According to the news agency ANI, Uttarakhand witnessed massive rain last night due to terrestrial rain in Dehradun, Chamoli, Uttarkashi and Haridwar districts. Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar told ANI that the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in the entire state.

There has been heavy rainfall, especially in the Garhwal region since August 12, roads are closed at several places, and Police and SDRF teams are on alert mode, said DGP.

The DGP informed that there was an incident of Cloud burst in the Chamoli and Mori areas of Uttarkashi, which caused waterlogging in Rishikesh. The DGP appealed to people to not go upside-down and don’t travel if not necessary.

The heavy rains in Chamoli’s Nagar Panchayat Pipalkoti’s Mayapur late at night also caused huge damage. Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana told ANI that several vehicles were buried and roads were blocked at Pipalkoti due to heavy debris from the mountain. At present, there is no information about loss of life or property.
