While Google Maps is known for helping drivers navigate through cities, like all other applications, it sometimes lands you in trouble. It has been witnessed that the application has shortcomings in reading and accessing elevation. Due to such possible difficulties, a woman drove her car into a ditch in Navi Mumbai on Friday morning. The driver was following the directions that Google Maps had indicated on her phone while she was driving from Belapur to Ulwe.

The woman was supposed to drive through the Bay Bridge in Belapur, but Google Maps navigated her through a route beneath the bridge — leading to Dhruvatara Jetty. Unaware of the situation, the driver followed the directions until they led her into the waterbody.
Security officials on the spot quickly recognised the issue and acted promptly to pull the vehicle out of the ditch. The driver had seemingly tried to escape from the drowning vehicle and was rescued first. As she was seen floating in the water, officials rescued her within minutes. She had not sustained any injuries.
The car was excavated from the ditch using a crane. Prior to this incident, there had been several other similar cases where, due to glitches, Google Maps had led people into precarious situations.
In a similar incident reported earlier, three people died while navigating using Google Maps. They drove onto a damaged bridge, and the car plunged into a river 50 feet below in Faridpur. The vehicle was en route to Dastaganj from Bareilly in the Badaun district. Responding to the accident, Google stated that it had assisted with the investigation.
“Our deepest sympathies go out to the families. We’re working closely with the authorities and providing our support to investigate the issue,” it said.
