The cause of this unrest stems from the workers of the Gondwana Ganatantra Party seeking an investigation into alleged corruption related to projects in the Manpur Assembly of Umaria district. Thousands of party workers initially organized a peaceful sit-in protest at the Rani Durgavati intersection.

However, during the demonstration, traffic came to a standstill on both the Shahpura and Katni routes. As tensions escalated, the protesters demanded entry into the city and the closure of shops, leading to a violent turn of events. A clash erupted between the police and the agitated workers.

In their fury, protesters damaged numerous vehicles, including private ones and even a fire brigade present at the scene. Stones were hurled at the police, resulting in injuries to eight police personnel, including Additional Superintendent of Police Pratipal Singh Mahobia.

All the injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital. To control the enraged activists, the police resorted to mild force, including a baton charge, and employed tear gas shells and water cannons.

The Umaria Collector explained that a general meeting was initially organized by Kakodiya of the Gondwana Ganatantra Party, prompting the deployment of a significant police force for security. The situation remained calm until 5 pm when the protesters demanded entry into the city.

Their demands included the closure of Rakhi shops, and they issued threats of dire consequences if their demands were not met. Barricades were set up to prevent their entry, but this led to stone pelting, which caused injuries to eight police personnel. The police had to respond with necessary force, and criminal cases will be filed against those responsible for the violence, with individuals being identified for appropriate action.
