New Delhi: A massive mishap occured in the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. Here 7 people who went to immerse the idol in the Mal river died, while 40 people are said to be missing.
As per the information, this accident happened due to increase in water flow in Mal river. Jalpaiguri SP Devarshi Dutta said that due to the strong current, many people got trapped in the river and many were washed away. The bodies of 7 people have been recovered. NDRF and civil defense have been deployed. Rescue work is still ongoing.
PM Narendra Modi has expressed grief over this incident. PM Modi tweeted and said, “Anguished by the mishap during Durga Puja festivities in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. Condolences to those who lost their loved ones.”

He further announced an amount of s 50,000 for the deceased, “Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each of the deceased in the tragic mishap during Durga Puja festivities in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.”

BJP National Vice President Dilip Ghosh has tweeted a video. He wrote, “1.1 Horrific incident on the day of Maa Durga’s way back to her home. Around 30 to 40 people went missing in Harpa Ban during Visarjan in Mal River in Malbazar, Jalpaiguri. BJP Karyakartas joined the rescue work.”
