Pithoragarh: At least 50 houses have been submerged in the Dharchula area of Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand after a cloudburst which occurred near the India-Nepal border of the district last night around 1 am.

The Pithoragarh Police shared a clip, in a tweet, and wrote that around 50 houses have been submerged in the Khotila village. The video shows a river flowing in full blow.

In a separate tweet, the police informed that due to cloudburst there has been a disaster in Khotila village.

“The rescue work is going on continuously by the Fire Service, SDRF, Police and Administration,” the police further informs.

“A cloud burst occurred near India-Nepal border in Pithoragarh, last night around 1 am and caused destruction in Dharchula’s Khotila village; water entered houses in Gwal village and Dharchula Malli market,” Pithoragarh DM told news agency ANI.

Cloud burst near Lasku, Nepal

On Friday night, it rained on the Indo-Nepal border. Around one o’clock in the night, Lasku drain took a formidable form due to cloudburst near Lasku in Nepal. The flow of the Kali river was affected by the debris that came along the drain.

SDRF, police engaged in relief work

The Gaushala of Dharchula Municipality on the banks of the Kali river collapsed and five cows were washed away. The embankments were washed away. The bridge in Khotila was washed away. As soon as the information is received, disaster management, revenue team, SDRF, police are engaged in relief work. Relief material is being transported by helicopter to Khotila. The affected are being shifted to safer places.
