Bride Anjali Kumari and groom Rahul Pramod Mahanto were about to get married at Shri Lakshmi Narayan Hall in Surat’s Varachha area when their families started arguing over a food shortage.
A wedding in Surat, Gujarat, took an unexpected turn when a food dispute caused the ceremony to be canceled but surprisingly the couple still got married with the help of local police, though not as planned.
Anjali Kumari and Rahul Pramod Mahanto were ready to exchange vows at Shri Lakshmi Narayan Hall in Surat’s Varachha area when a heated argument started between their families.The problem was a shortage of food for the guests. The argument got so bad that the groom’s family decided not to continue with the wedding, leaving the bride’s family surprised and upset.
With no other choice, Anjali’s family asked the police for help. The officers at Varachha police station quickly sent a team to try and convince the groom’s family, but they refused to change their decision.
Seeing that the wedding couldn’t happen at the venue, the police came up with a different plan. They brought the groom to the station and organized a simple ceremony there.
The couple exchanged garlands and got married, with the police officers as witnesses.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar confirmed the incident, saying that officers just wanted to ensure the couple’s marriage wasn’t ruined due to a family dispute.
The police station may not have been their dream venue for sure, at least Anjali Kumari and Rahul Pramod Mahanto walked away as husband and wife.
