An Internship form has ignited a ‘legal’ or ‘illegal’ controversy among social media users after it went viral online. The screenshot of the application form was shared by an individual on X, previously known as Twitter. The man who identifies himself as a cisgender male, the white candidate expressed his frustration over the potential diversity policies, assuming it to be biased. “I’m assuming I won’t get this internship,” he wrote on X.

The form requested data on race, gender, sexual orientation, and preferred pronouns. The candidate selected the following options- ‘Straight/Heterosexual’ for sexual orientation, ‘White’ for race, and ‘He/him’ for pronouns. The incident has sparked a significant debate online, with many users inquiring into the fairness and legality of including questions on sexual orientation and identity. Critics argued that such practices may disadvantage candidates based on diversity policies. Meanwhile, supporters identify them as a tool to enhance diversity.

The post has garnered massive attention with over 2.8 million views on X and 76k likes.

One user advised it’s a lie and they can’t legally question you. A user also expressed disbelief and wrote “My Goodness”. Another commented that the question is now becoming routine. While one questioned the legality of asking for sexual orientation.

“Go ahead on to the next one my guy lol,” an X user Big Blue Keg said. Another user countered, “Should’ve lied to be honest.” The post has welcomed some hilarious reactions too with some commenting “My sexual orientation is 360 degrees” and “What if I was an Alien? Will they give me the job”

Some responses supported the questions asked by the unnamed company. A User suggested, “Bro, mention that you’re a BIPOC transfemale lesbian. If you can’t figure out how to beat a survey form, you do not qualify for the job.”
