Tamil cinema icon Vijay officially launched his political career in a massive rally in Villupuram, introducing his new party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Thousands gathered under the hot sun, showing unwavering support for Vijay’s foray into politics.

Symbolic Gestures and Connecting with the People

Vijay captivated the crowd by hoisting the TVK flag, wearing the party’s colors, and interacting with supporters on a personal level. His approach, accompanied by the playing of Tamil Thai Vaazhthu (the state anthem), emphasized his connection with the local culture and aspirations.

“Our mission is to bring our ideology to the people and introduce them to leaders who have long fought for this soil,” Vijay declared, aligning TVK’s philosophy with the vision of Periyar, a champion of Tamil social justice, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of India’s Constitution. Vijay expressed a commitment to social equity and women’s rights, ideals central to both Periyar’s and Ambedkar’s legacies.

Embracing Women Leaders and Social Progress

TVK proudly highlighted historic Tamil women leaders like Velu Nachiyar, the first queen to resist British forces, and Anjalai Ammal, a noted social activist. Vijay stated that TVK is one of the few parties to prioritize women as ideological figures, emphasizing gender equality and empowerment as core values.

TVK’s Foundational Goals

Vijay shared TVK’s manifesto, which includes:

  • Eliminating the Governor’s post to enhance local governance
  • Making Tamil the official language in legal and administrative proceedings
  • Advancing gender equality
  • Conducting a caste-based census to promote fair representation
  • Returning education to state control for better alignment with regional needs

In a powerful symbolic gesture, Vijay was presented with the Bhagavad Gita, the Bible, and the Quran to underscore TVK’s secular foundation. The rally concluded with the unveiling of TVK’s ideological anthem, energizing supporters for the party’s political journey.

Vijay’s TVK has entered the political scene with a strong emphasis on Tamil pride, social justice, and secular values, signaling a fresh approach to Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
