In a dignified response to the outcome of the Vice Presidential election held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, INDIA bloc candidate Justice B. Sudershan Reddy has issued a statement. He has acknowledged the verdict of the members of the Parliament in a message after being defeated by Maharashtra Governor and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) nominee CP Radhakrishnan.
According to the Election Commission (EC), a total of 767 votes were polled, out of which 752 were found valid and 15 were invalid. The quota to decide the winner was set as 377. The NDA’s candidate secured 452 votes, while the INDIA Bloc nominee got 300 votes.

The counting of votes began at 6 pm after the voting ended.
BJD members Sasmit Patra, Munna Khan, Niranjan Bishi, Manas Ranjan Mangaraj, Sulata Deo, Debashish Samantaray, and Subhashish Khuntia; TDP members KR Suresh Reddy, Ravi Chandra Vaddiraju, Damodar Rao Divakonda, and B Parthasaradhi Reddy; SAD’s Harsimrat Kaur; and Independent Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa did not caste their vote for VP polls.
Nearly 96% polling was completed till 3 pm, according to PTI's official sources.

DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai stated that the Vice Presidential election represents a battle between constitutional values and RSS ideology. He alleged that the BJP pressured the former Vice President to resign and called for upholding the dignity of democratic institutions, while voicing support for the INDIA bloc’s candidate, Sudarshan Reddy.
Congress MP Manickam Tagore says, "We don't know why Jagdeep Dhankhar sahab resigned. He was forced to resign. Suddenly, the election came into the picture. In the meeting, we decided not to field our party person. We will find a neutral person. Therefore, the consensus was on Justice Sudershan Reddy, whose credentials for honesty and for his neutrality have been celebrated across India...We will be able to know who is really helping the BJP or whether they are standing with the Constitution."

How is the winner determined?
The candidate who receives more than 50% of the valid votes cast is declared the winner. If only two candidates are in the fray, the result is decided in the first round itself, as the one with the higher number of votes automatically crosses the required threshold. However, if there are more than two candidates and no one secures the majority initially, the counting proceeds through a process of elimination. The candidate with the least number of votes is eliminated, and their votes are redistributed to the remaining contenders based on the next preference indicated on the ballots. This elimination and redistribution process continues until one candidate achieves the required majority.
