The Parliament on Saturday is conducting polling for Vice President Election for 2022 as the tenure of incumbent VP M Venkaiah Naidu will end on August 11. The polling started on 10 AM that will continue till 5 PM.
Once the polling will be done, the counting of votes will start immediately. The Vice President Election Result 2022 will also be declared today and with that, the nation will get its new Vice President.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has nominated West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar as its candidate, while the opposition has nominated Congress leader Margaret Alva as its candidate.
Only Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs vote in the election of the Vice-President. Nominated members also participate in this election. That is, a total of 788 votes can be cast in the election of the Vice President. In this, 543 MPs of Lok Sabha and 243 members of Rajya Sabha vote. There are 12 nominated MPs among the Rajya Sabha members.
According to the political equation, NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar is almost certain to be elected as the 14th Vice President of the country. BJP was in a position to win Jagdeep Dhankhar in the Vice Presidential election on its own. BJP has 303 members in Lok Sabha and 91 in Rajya Sabha. This number is enough to win the Vice Presidential election.
Meanwhile, like the Presidential election, BJP, YSR Congress, BSP and TDP have announced their support for the NDA candidate in this election. The strength of these parties in both the houses is 67. Apart from this, at least 13 members of Shiv Sena are with Bijeri in the Lok Sabha. Accordingly, NDA candidate Dhankhar is likely to get more than 65 per cent votes.
