A 23-year-old woman allegedly suffered an acid attack after she refused a proposal from a man in Perampalli village of Gurrankonda mandal in Andhra Pradesh, said police. Police said that suspect has been identified as Ganesh, a resident of Ammacheruvu Mitta in Madanapalle.
Police said Ganesh allegedly barged into the house of the woman identified as Gautami on Friday morning, when her parents were out for work.
“The suspect was stalking and harassing women for some time and proposed to her. When she denied, he got angry and barged into her. He allegedly stabbed a woman with a knife and threw acid on her,” said police, adding that the woman was taken to a nearby hospital where she is undergoing treatment.
The investigation revealed that the woman’s marriage was fixed to a man identified as Shrikant on February 7. When the suspect came to know about her marriage, he pressured her to accept his proposal, which led to the incident.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu also condemned the incident and said he has directed the officials to take strict action against the suspect. He also assured them to support the woman and her family during the tough time.
